N.U.B. Engineering refractory project: Rebuild of No. 2 Retort Brimac Environmental Greenock

Brimac Environmental have three retorts at their site in Greenock and import crushed cow / bovine bones mainly from India for their process. The crushed bones are fed into the top of the retort where they are fired to 1000 degrees centigrade for between 12 to 24 hours. At the end of the firing process the product exits the bottom of the retort as a white powder, which is known as “Hydroxyapatite.” This product is then sold for fluid purification in the likes of sugar and water industries.

The retort:
No. 2 Retort was demolished by Brimac general labourers in the last quarter of 2010 after which N.U.B. Engineering supplied skilled tradesmen and experienced labour for a six week period in November and December of 2010 to rebuild the No. 2 retort from start to finish.

The 6 metres high by 3 metres long and 2.5 metres wide (approximate dimensions) retort consists of a complex arrangement or bricks of many different shapes and sizes over the first 75 coarses, with each coarse having its individual drawing or plan. The remaining 12 coarses of brickwork are built with standard bricks.

The retort rebuild was successfully completed December of 2010 and is now once again fully utilised by Brimac.

Universal and solid! The new N.U.B. Engineering PHAZER-tooth for foundation drilling tools

N.U.B. Engineering are pleased to advise that they are now able to supply the “PHAZER” tooth and holder specially designed for use with both augers and buckets for drilling soft to hard ground.

Precision made in Germany to the highest standards the tungsten tipped wedge shaped teeth are held into place within the holder by a simple spring retaining ring fitted around the shank allowing swift and easy replacement and minimising down time during replacement. The holder with protective shoulder ensures the tooth is prevented from rotating whilst allowing it to be repositioned through 180 degrees to maximise use.

Tungsten tips are positioned along the leading edge and side edge that cuts aiding wear in soft ground and adding to the potential to grind or cut harder materials whilst increasing the life expectancy.

With the contractor in mind the holder is manufactured with a punch out hole for tooth removal and a simple lip to allow placemen on the underside of the flight giving a 37.5⁰ digging angle for the tooth from the flight all minimising maintenance and replacement problems.

Ideally suited for use on the smaller augers and buckets (up to 600mm diameter) they provide a specifically designed tooth suitable for modern high power hydraulic piling rigs maximizing the digging potential economically.

N.U.B. Drilling tools used to improve road safety and stabilisation. Augers, drilling buckets and casings from N.U.B. are chosen for road project in England

The reliability and modern design of the foundation drilling equipment supplied by N.U.B. Engineering to contractors both in the UK and abroad has resulted in repeat custom from some of the most competent of drilling companies. The ability to supply tools to the most demanding specifications and within agreed timescales has resulted once again in N.U.B. supplying specific piling tools to complete a complex and demanding contract.

Foundation piles were chosen to restrain the embankment and stabalise the foundations of a bridge at a major motorway interchange where work commenced in September and was due for completion in only eight weeks. Asa tried and tested supplier N.U.B. were chosen to manifacture and delive rthe required tools on time to avoid any delay.

The robust design of the tools is specifically matched to the modern hydraulic rig specifications to maximise the efficiencies in drilling and fully utilise the rigs potential for speed and torque resulting in best use of equipment technology.

In working with the customer to produce the 2.43m diameter tools required for this work alternative teeth and digging edge configurations were considered for before the design for each of the digging tools was finalised.

“We are proud of the trust that is placed in the quality of our products around in the world“ Said the N.U.B. representative.

“With our know-how gained from more than 30 years of experience, we can systematically develop our drilling technology and provide outstanding, customer-oriented solutions. Commitment to quality and customer satisfaction from all of the team at N.U.B. have given us respect from our drilling partners around the world and we shall continue to strive to develop relations to further assist all our customers“.

Satisfied customers are the guarantors of our success

The latest issue of the german well-drilling magazin “bbr” shows the succesfull drilling of geothermal loops with our Hollow-stem augers and our excavator add-on rotary heads.
